Sturgeon fishing in January 2017 has been real tough with all the ice and snow. very difficult to get out.
As of January 18th, 2017, I have not made it up the Gorge yet to start the keeper sturgeon fishery.
Keeper Sturgeon fishery is done in the Bonneville pool.
I have managed to get out a few times on the Willamette River for some exciting action of catch and release sturgeon.
With some of these sturgeons been ranging between four and seven feet long.
It’s looking like we’re going to get a break in the weather, I will start heading up to the Hood River and Cascade Locks area to start the keeper sturgeon fishery within the next week.
I don’t expect the sturgeon season in the Bonneville pool to last much into February.
If you’re looking to put some fresh sturgeon in your freezer, I have a covered and heated boat and can get you hooked up.
We catch sturgeon year around. In May, June, and July the average size Sturgeon is five to ten foot long. However, this is a catch and release fishery.
