Following a day of fishing with Marvin’s Guide Service on the Willamette or Columbia Rivers near Portland, Oregon, you may be curious about the best dining spots in the area. Given the abundance of excellent eateries in Portland, it’s impossible to include them all in a single article; therefore, this selection reflects my personal preferences and is not ranked in any particular order.

Seafood

Jake’s Famous Crawfish

Location: 401 SW 12th Ave. Portland, OR 97205.

Call (503) 226-1419 or visit the website.

Jake’s Famous Crawfish has stood as a downtown Portland icon for over 127 years and is recognized as one of the nation’s top ten seafood restaurants.

The crab and shrimp stuffed halibut is one of my favorites at Jake’s—truly scrumptious! Don’t forget to view their online menu, which features daily specials on fresh fish, shrimp, and crab.

Steak

Outback Steakhouse

Locations: Several around Portland.

See the website for location information.

The Outback Steakhouse menu is a sure bet, offering everything from prime rib to steaks to ribs. Just pick your favorite and savor the meal.

Mexican

EL Indio

Location: 19422 SE Stark St, Portland, OR 97233

Call (503) 665-4919.

I truly appreciate this venue. I relax, savor some chips and salsa, and sip on a margarita while perusing the menu. The steak fajitas here are my top dinner choice!

Perhaps you’re in search of a casual bar setting with excellent cuisine. If so, this spot in Portland is perfect for you.

Sports Bar

McGillicuddy’s Sports Bar and Grill

Location: 11133 NE Halsey St, Portland, OR 97220

Call (503) 257-2337 or visit the website.

This is one of my favorite places to sit back and relax. You’ll have plenty of TV’s to watch your favorite sports.

I really enjoy tacos, so I like Tuesday nights when they have all you can eat taco bar. Be sure to check out their website for different nightly specials, from steak to burgers to fish and chips. They have it all.

Food Trucks

The Fork (Fairview Food Plaza)

Location: 22320 NE Halsey St, Fairview, OR 97024

Food trucks are big in Portland, with plenty of cart pods to choose.

For me, I love these food trucks in Fairview, just east of Portland.

You can find something from everybody, from seafood to Mexican food to Asian food. They truly have it all, and they even have covered seating.

My family and I go here quite often. That way there is no argument, and everybody can get something they like, and we can still sit down and enjoy it together. So, I highly recommend The Fork.

Italian

The Old Spaghetti Factory

Locations: 715 S Bancroft Street, Portland, OR 97239 (as well as several suburban locations).

See the website.

The Portland location of this restaurant has windows that offer a panoramic view of the city and of the Willamette River.

One of my favorite dishes at The Old Spaghetti Factory is called the Meat Lover’s Treat. It has Sicilian meatballs, Italian sausage, spaghetti and a rich meat sauce.

DIY

Your Home

Well, now, one of the best meals I can recommend is cooking the fresh salmon you caught on the Columbia River or Willamette River with Marvin’s Guide Service at your own home on your grill.

I like to cook my salmon simply, using a little Johnny salt, garlic, butter, and honey. I heat my Traeger up to 350 degrees, place the salmon skin side down, and cook for about 25 minutes. When I slide the spatula under the meat, the skin stays on the grill, and the salmon comes off nice and tasty.
