Well, people they say the Columbia River will close on Friday, April 13, for Spring Salmon. We will have to wait and see if Oregon and Washington fish and game departments decide to extend the season again. I wish we could decide our season like the commercial Gillneters can. If you’re looking for Steelhead, there’s nothing better than the John Day River in November. Most of these fish are Summer hold-overs seeking cool water before heading off to Idaho. These Steelhead fight hard, run and jump and charge the boat. If you let the the line get slack, they run in the opposite direction and jump and run hard. This is a blast on light tackle.

I’m so excited about the upcoming Columbia River Buoy 10 salmon fishing season which starts on August 1. Buoy 10 is located at the mouth of the Columbia River. This year, the return of Chinook salmon is predicted to be huge, and there will also be a great run of coho salmon. It should be a wild time with lots of hookups! I can’t wait to get out there and start my guided fishing trip. I’ll keep this page current with 2025 Buoy 10 fishing updates
