These bottom-dwelling fish can grow to impressive sizes, with some known to exceed 1,000 pounds in weight. Sturgeon fishing is available year-round, though it primarily operates as a catch-and-release fishery.

Salmon fishing and walleye fishing start in the springtime, usually in late March. Both are available on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers near Portland. Salmon fishing is known for the thrill of the catch, while walleye fishing is a relaxing experience. Walleye is a favorite for fish tacos.

I like to fish for salmon and walleye in both the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. The best time to fish for salmon is in the spring, and the best time to fish for walleye is in the fall. On the Columbia River, the best fishing spots are near Portland and Astoria, Oregon. The best fishing spots on the Willamette River are near Portland and Salem, Oregon.
